Sailing and Life Experience
Growing up aboard my father's vessel, Tearaway, I had the unique privilege of exploring various destinations across Australia during my childhood. Being born in 1985, I was immersed in the wonders of the sea and the adventures it offered. Traveling on the boat allowed me to experience a diverse range of landscapes and cultures, shaping my perspective and instilling in me a deep appreciation for the beauty of the world around me.
My restoration of the 30-year-old catamaran in 2013 was a remarkable endeavor, allowing me to venture into the most breathtaking and isolated locations that Australia has to offer. Following in my father's footsteps adds a touch of legacy to my sailing adventures, creating a unique bond between past and present through the shared love for exploration and the sea. This journey not only showcases my dedication to preserving memories and traditions but also highlights the beauty of Australia's hidden gems that I am fortunate to witness and experience firsthand.
I have many sea miles under my belt on various vessels. I am a qualified commercial skipper and completed the full circumnavigation of Australia, I sailed the Southern Ocean and Great Austrailan Bight multiple times, as well as many other parts of Australias coast.
In my home town of Albany WA, I have carried out extensive training and been involved in numerous search and rescue operations with the local volunteer marine rescue branch, gaining much fulfilment helping out fellow mariners who find themselves in trouble.
Previous yacht deliveries conducted since 2010 have taken me on numerous voyages across the Great Australian Bight, around Cape Leeuwin, sailing the Southern Ocean, down the rugged West coast of Tasmania, up the Queensland coast, Coral Coast to Thursday Island, Darwin, the Timor Sea and Indian Ocean, the Kimberley’s and a multitude of trips up and down the West Australian coast line.
I value honesty, integrity and positive communication, witnessing this should leave you comfortable that your vessel is in safe hands and let you sleep easy while your vessel is in transit knowing it is being looked after as best as possible. Whether you want Tearaway marine to deliver your boat or you want to gain the confidence and experience to be able to tackle the task yourself in the future. We have a highly experienced Team available to skipper your your vessel and to guide your vessel through a safe passage.
My sailing philosophy dictates, choosing favourable weather conditions is often the difference between experiencing a good or a bad passage and is one of the most important skills to possess. Bad passages can often turn into expensive mistakes. Those unfortunate circumstances are not something I wish to be involved with, if at all possible to avoid. I understands your vessel is a valuable asset to you and I err on the conservative while entrusted to it.
