54FT MOTOR CRUISER

Southern Ocean

Albany WA - Port Lincoln SA - Melbourne VIC

Converted Trawler delivered from Albany to Port Lincoln to Melbourne.

Approximately 1500 nautical miles across the southern coast of Australia

Originally named ‘Lisa Jean’ built in 1979 as a prawn trawler in Ballina NSW she fished prawns and then scallops in Port Phillip Bay. In 2001 she was converted to her current layout as a motor cruiser by renowned traditional wooden boat builder Garry Stewart in Port Fairy, Victoria.

Departing Albany with 3 on board and with favourable weather conditions Mahout sliced through King George Sound at 8.5 Knots and into open ocean. A non eventful overnighter through to the Recherche Archipelago.

With overnight anchorages found under Mount Belches and then in the lee of Middle Island we departed into the Great Australian Bight for our three and a half day steam through to Port Lincoln arriving late in the night to a glass off calm marina berth.

Regular engine room checks throughout the voyage found no major problems other than some general maintenance. The new owner John met us the following day and we debriefed before enjoying a very nice meal at a local restaurant.

Following some logistical changes for the new owner, we were again commissioned to relocate Mahout further down the coast to Royal Brighton Yacht Club near Melbourne. Trying to stay ahead of a bad weather system that was approaching, Yvonne and myself steamed down past Kangaroo Island into some rather large seas off the coast of Robe. We arrived in Beautiful Port Fairy in time to ride out a strong front, tied up alongside in the river. While waiting out the unfavourable conditions we had the chance to meet Gary Stewart the boat builder that did the conversion over 20 years previous.

Leaving Port Fairy astern we continued on around Cape Otway, spent a night in Apollo Bay and then a nice run up to The Rip and entering Port Phillip Bay, with the “Spirit of Tasmania” passing us heading southbound. A few hours more and we arrived at Royal Brighton Yacht Club with John meeting us and catching our lines, we once again debriefed over a couple of beverages and a meal.

Mahout was a stand out vessel full of character. She was later taken through to Sydney where she has found her new home on Sydney Harbour.

Coby has just complete a 1000 NM delivery from Albany WA to Port Lincoln SA On my 52C ex trawler.

From my first engagement over the phone, I knew from his attitude towards the boat and the trip which lay ahead that Coby was the right person to engage for the job.

His detailed inspection, trip planning and completion of paperwork prior to departure was first class, and of a highly professional standard. During the trip, daily updates were relayed and his approach to weather routing perfect. Once Coby reached port, his true professional and caring side showed.

The boat was washed down, cleaned and present as if it hadn’t left a dock. As a boat owner, entrusting another person to complete a delivery on your behalf means bestowing a great deal of confidence in them. Due to Coby’s highly professional seamanship and likeable manner I would highly recommend him to anyone wishing to engage his services.
